However, to benefit from the perspectives of our people who have disabilities we have to constantly strive to deliver that equality of opportunity and daily experience for them.

Dismantling stigma and delivering equal career opportunities for all

The Clifford Chance Enable network gathered to mark International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December).

The panel - Matthew Layton, Ruth Owen OBE, Lord Kevin Shinkwin and Tiernan Brady - discussed how we can tackle the stigma faced by people with disabilities in society and in workplaces, and what businesses should do as they strive to deliver an equality of opportunity and experience for all our colleagues.



As part of our commitment to disability inclusion we are proud to be supporting the International Paralympic Committee on #WeThe15, sports' largest human rights campaign, which will raise awareness of the 15% of the world (c1.2 billion people) with a disability. Over the next decade it aims to both end discrimination towards persons with disabilities and to put disability right at the heart of the inclusion agenda, alongside ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation.

Driving positive social change

Ahead of the #WeThe15 launch on 19th August, we hosted a panel event with Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson (British Paralympian athlete), Stephane Leblois (Director of Partnerships at The Valuable 500), Ekta Byan (Indian Paralympian athlete), Matthew Layton (Global Managing Partner), Tiernan Brady (Global Head of Inclusion), Louise Zabbar (UK Enable co-chair), Ashika Patel (UK Enable co-chair) and Jeroen Ouwehand (Global Senior Partner), to introduce the campaign to our clients and talk about how we can work collaboratively to drive positive social change ahead of the Paris Paralympic Games in 2024.

How our offices celebrated #WeThe15

With a long-standing connection to the disability community, purple is the official colour of #WeThe15. Our offices across the world lit up in purple to show support.

Our colleagues in Hong Kong were treated to delicious purple cookies baked by The Nest Bakery, a non profit social enterprise empowering people with learning disabilities. The bakery employs four staff with learning disabilities who receive guidance from their head baker to create and bake delicious cakes, cookies, pastries and more.

With #WeThe15 launching at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, we encouraged our people to get into the spirit with 15 minutes of movement - whether a walk, a run, a swim.

Infinite Flow


Marisa Hamamoto is a Japanese American dance artist, stroke survivor, and founder of Infinite Flow, a nonprofit and award-winning dance company with a mission to dismantle biases, promote inclusion, and discover and celebrate our own resilience. Global Director of Inclusion Tiernan Brady spoke with Marisa in a powerful keynote session.

The discussion was followed by a performance by Infinite Flow dancers.

Clifford Chance joins forces with the Invictus Games Foundation


Clifford Chance has been appointed as legal advisor to the Invictus Games Foundation. The partnership will see Clifford Chance provide a suite of innovative legal services to the Foundation in a range of areas including commercial, intellectual property, employment and pensions, and governance and risk, among others.



Clifford Chance is part of FIDE's working group, established by several law firms who want to bolster the incorporation of people with disabilities in their workforce. Its aim is twofold: one, to expand the role of people with disabilities in law firms beyond administrative tasks, integrating them in the legal work that forms the essence of the firm; and two, for they themselves to perceive law firms as a place to work.

Clifford Chance and National Autistic Society helps 170 families through a 20-year partnership


In 2020 we celebrated the 20th anniversary of our partnership with the National Autistic Society. The alliance has helped 170 families directly by representing them at education tribunals, and many more indirectly through test cases and by providing information, advice and guidance.

Disability Employment Awareness Month


In honour of Disability Employment Awareness Month in the US, we have teamed up with Pure Vision Arts (PVA) to showcase a selection of its resident artists, and bring you this digital exhibition.

Pure Vision Arts is an art studio exhibition space for artists with autism and other developmental disabilities. PVA's philosophy begins with the belief that the arts are not a luxury, but a necessity in a civilized society, and that all people regardless of their disability should have the opportunity to express themselves.

Basketball with Rebound WA


To raise awareness of the importance of disability inclusion, colleagues from our Perth office took part in a fun wheelchair basketball game hosted by Rebound WA, a charitable association assisting Western Australians living with physical disabilities to live more active lives. The team was made up of mostly non-wheelchair users.
