Inclusion & diversity

Improving the gender balance in our firm across all offices and at all levels of seniority is a top priority.

We continue to devise and implement targeted and tailored strategies that will deliver on our goal of an equality of opportunity, aspiration and experience.

From client breakfasts, virtual events to book launches, here's how we're promoting gender equality at Clifford Chance.

Working towards a #SheCovery with the Women's Forum

As a member of the Women's Forum, Clifford Chance attended its G20 Italy conference which aimed to promote dialogue between public and private international decision-makers, and develop concrete proposals and solutions under the theme of #Shecovery, envisioning women as key players in facing the new global challenges.

Clifford Chance delegates, Global Managing Partner Matthew Layton and Ines Teixeira in the UK and Sindana Ulaganathan in Germany reflect on their key insights from the event.

The role of women in managing climate change

Clifford Chance (in association with our gender parity network, Accelerate>>>) hosted The Energy & Climate Change Institute, Queen Mary, University of London's annual lecture on climate change.

Clare invited Emma Howard Boyd, Chair, Environment Agency, to the stage to give a keynote speech. Clare and Emma were also joined by Claire Perry O'Neill, Managing Director for Climate and Energy at the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, for an in-depth discussion around the key themes and developments shaping climate change with a special focus on the role of women as instigators of change, and the disproportionate impact of climate change on women.

International Women's Day

To celebrate International Women's Day 2021, Clifford Chance offices joined together to pledge our support for the #ChooseToChallenge campaign, which informs us that "a challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change". How do we challenge each other and ourselves to: change the rules, change the culture, change the lived experience, in line with our global inclusion strategy. Let's all choose to challenge, while celebrating women and campaigning for gender equality throughout the month of March.

50 years of women in the Clifford Chance partnership

In 2020 we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the firm’s first female partner in London, Rosalind Bax. In partnership with our gender parity group Accelerate>>>, we looked back and profiled a partner from each decade back to 1971.

Here partner Thais Garcia is interviewed by trainee Gemma Mills. Together they talk about Thais' experiences of practicing law in the Americas and Europe, how gender pay gap reporting can drive change within organisations, bringing more men into the conversation about accelerating gender equality within the firm, and much more.
